Success Stories 2

Dear Alice,

It is high time that I take things into my own hands. My mom promised several time to send a few lines for your guestbook, but never got to it. I just want to say, that the day my mom picked me up from a foster home (last year, one week before Christmas) was the luckiest one in all my life. I saw their home (they even have grass in the backyard!) and convinced them that I wanted to stay. It worked and my new parents sometimes even seem to forget their 10 year old boxer  "Beauty", that they lost last Thanksgiving Day to cancer.

I also write on behalf of my brand-new friend Oscar. We adopted him three weeks ago after he joined us several times for a long walk on weekends. He really is a big guy, a couch potato like me and we get along very well most of the time. I think he is happy to be here too. He is obviously more cultivated than I am, as he will sit and lay down on command. I still have a hard time convincing my family that such tricks are a waste of time.

I am so grateful, and I am convinced that Oscar feels the same,  that the Boxer Rescue took us in and started the chain of events that ended at the Miller house.

 Love,

Lily  - that's me on the right :)

In Loving Memory...

March 1996 to April 2005

You may or may not remember, but I adopted a Boxer "Tyson's Revenge" from you some 8 years ago or so, when we lived in Escondido.  We just recently had to allow her to leave her body.  She was diagnosed with Boxer Cardiomyopathy about 6 months ago.  She was are constant companion, loyal friend and allowed us to share her life these past 8 years.  She is dearly missed and will not be forgotten.

Thank you for allowing us to bring her into our home.

Alice -

Sorry it has been so long to let you know how Fergie is doing.  As you can see by the photos attached she is great.  We have had her almost two months now.  How time flies.

We love her very much and are so glad she came to live with us.  Adrienne, our 9 year old boxer is like a new dog since Fergie came.  She is now playing more and since we are walking them regularly seems more fit as well.

Fergie likes to sleep on the couch, laying on someone if at all possible, and if I am the one sitting on the couch I have one dog on either side of me.  She and Adrienne sleep on our bed and vie for space next to me.  She adores Amanda, our 1 year old and Michael our 6 year old and they love her too.  She is no longer having accidents in the house, it only took about a week or so to house train her.  She is very smart.  She has figured out that in the evening when I put my shoes on and get my sweater it is time for a walk and she gets all excited.  Fergie and Adrienne do very well together, walking side by side, when we go out.  Fergie knows what heal means and is also very good in the car.  I have signed her up for obedience training to help us with some minor issues, like chewing the babies toys and taking my shoes.

We will take really good care of her and are glad that there are those of you out there that have such a love of dogs that you are willing to rescue them so that those of us that really want to adopt them can.

  Thanks for everything.

Angie, Brad, Michael, Amanda and the dogs (Adrienne and Fergie)

Hi Alice,

Thought you'd like to know that Roxy is doing wonderfully.  She is the sweetest dog and gets along really well with Jake (our 1yr old boxer).  They have their own dog beds in the livingroom but they like to lay together and we have at least 5 rawhide bones laying around they always want the same one!   They play so well together and when she is tired and Jake wants to continue she puts him in his place!  He needs a little more of that so it's a good thing!   Roxy is definately a family dog and loves to be around us...especially snuggling in bed at night!   She also loves our 7 month old son and is already protective and cautious as to where he is...she likes to lay on the floor by his crib.

Everything is well and we are so glad to have her.

Hi Alice,

Not sure if you will remember me...a few years back i worked @ the South County Shelter as the FOCAS adoption counselor...I'm pretty sure one of your own boxers was one Linda & i swore was a mix!! Anyhow, at OB dog beach today I took this picture of Duke Tully & later found out from his dad that he was adopted from 'Escondido Boxer Rescue'...of course it was you!!

I hope all you & your fur-kids are well & thanks for what you do!

Dearest Alice-

Remember Us? Michael, and I and our 3 yr old son Hayden rescued McCloud, previous name "Bobby" in January 2005. He was from Desert Hot Springs  Animal Control originally as a stray, then stayed with a family with children for several days and they said he was too mellow ! Then McCloud came to live with us....it took just a few days for him to lose a little bit of weight, fit in with our 4 yr old white boxer Dexter and then gain back his weight and more.  He still gives us the long slow kisses he gave to me the first time you let him into the room to meet us.  Recently, we moved into a new home in Fallbrook and Dexter and McCloud just love the backyard.  I have given you some pictures of Dexter and McCloud together.  Their morning ritual is to clean each other's eyes, really funny, but it's true as you can see in one of the pictures. They each have their own dog beds in our bedroom but it never fails to have one or the other or both join us on our bed in the mornings!  McCloud did not have any manners when we first brought him home but he now sits when we give out a dog treat and he took to his name right away. He fits into our family just perfectly and is a great buddy to Dexter  He loves our son Hayden and likes to sneak under his bed and hide out sometimes.  We just heard McCloud bark for the first time and he and Dexter really like to protect us when they hear funny noises.  We thank you for allowing us to take home such a good spirited white boxer.

 Sincerely,

 Julie Simpson

Hi Alice,

We were delighted to receive the holiday newsletter.  We got Amber from you about five years ago and she is doing well.  She has had a couple of cancerous tumors show up but we caught them early and all is well.  Amber is our first female boxer and is quite different than our boys were.  She is much more aggressive, protective and stubborn but still a love to family and close friends as are all boxers.  We moved to a new home in 2002 and her guard dog tendencies have worked better than an alarm system.  Its hard to believe Amber had three homes in her short 2  ½ years when we adopted her as our third boxer rescue.  We applaud you for your dedication to this endearing breed.  We attached our holiday picture.

Thanks again, Pat, Joy and Amber

Hi Alice.
We adopted Jack last November from you. He was about 6 months old when we got him. He is a brindle with white socks and a white belly. We love him and he loves us. If we had a little more room we would come visit you again for another. He is great with my 2 children. He loves to play hide and seek and chase with them. He's not much of a fetch dog, but loves the chase part. Jack is good with other dogs too. We take him for walks and trips to the dog park as much as possible. I take him out on my boat to go fishing with me. He was a present for my son's bithday, but has turned out to be my baby. Thank you for saving these wonderful dogs and thank you for Jack! My son often asks me about one of the other dogs you had when we got Jack. He was a 6 yr old fawn named Jordan. Very friendly big boxer. Did he find a good home? I'm sure he did. I attached a couple pictures of our "Jack".
Thank you,
Dan, Cheris, Jordan, Katie and Jack

Jackson is loving his new home..
he loves his girlfriend Chiqua - I will send you pictures of them they are inseparable..
and as you can see he has won his charm with Ben our cat..
Ciao for now...

Hello there,
We adopted Kiddo from you and he seems to be doing well.  Our 2 cats and
Kiddo got along right away.  Kiddo is still very shy and at times we do see
him coming out of his shell.  My son loves him to death and in the evenings
he sleeps with my son on his bed.  It's completely adorable.

Hope you had a good Turkey Day!!

Hello Alice,
This is Jennifer we adopted brewster a few months ago, i know you are a busy lady, so i'll keep it short. Brewster is doing great, our other boxer Maggie and him have really hit off. They snuggle, wrestle, and get into trouble together. He really is such a wonderful dog. He has never tried to escape, he ran out the garage once when the door was left open but as soon as we called him he ran right back to us. I figure he has realized that he doesnt want or need to leave because he has found his place in our life. Well i hope all is well for you and thank you for bringing brewster into our life. I look at him still and can't even imagine how anyone could hurt him. Thanks again! One of these days I'll send you a picture. Bye now

Hi Alice,
We got a white male boxer, Sport, from you a couple of months ago.  I thought you might like to know how things are going with him. After spending the weekend getting to know him, we renamed him Riley. The first couple of weeks were rough as he surprised us with the ability to jump our 5 1/2 foot fence. He ran off a couple of times and we were really discouraged and weren't sure how we were going to be able to keep him.

Our solution was to keep him confined in the garage during the days while we were at work. We also attended an obedience class at The Animal Keeper in Poway. In addition, we took him to dog day camp once a week for exercise and socialization.  Things are going great now.  Riley spends the days in the backyard while we are at work.  He's got a dog door into the garage
but my neighbor says he's always sleeping on the lounge chair (she peeks in on him frequently).

We took him hiking at Big Bear last weekend and he had a good time.  Here are some pictures I think you might enjoy!
He's a very fun and playful pal, thanks for letting us have him!

This little gal came to me from the Chula Vista shelter (they really do care!) after she was pushed out of the car in their driveway as her owner drove away! When I got her she had really sad eyes and was undernourished and pretty miserable and not liking the world very much. Can you imagine the difference this owner has made with all the attention Kelly is getting now! I love the swimsuit and nail polish! I just guffawed...

Hello Alice~

Wanted to give you an update on Lizzie.

She has settled in quite nicely with our other two boxers and is doing well with housetraining. She is quite the character. It's funny how every boxer has a unique personality. She is definitely goofy-like.

We love her to pieces! Thank you for allowing us the opportunity of adopting her so quickly.

Sincerely,

Michael & Deanna Hook
